Love this piece of art your created. Wonderful draw and color, Laura.

Laura Grisham replied:

Color is my middle name! I know my dog portraits are not what you would expect, but they wouldn't be truly mine without the color or the eyes. Thanks again for commenting on my work. Best Wishes, Laura

Judy is right, the eyes are very impressive! We voted ... Heiko and Helga

Laura Grisham replied:

The eyes are the MOST important part to me...I love it when occasionally a painting will look like it follows you around the room!

You seem to have a magic trick in showing the emotions through the eyes...beautiful and impressive!

Laura Grisham replied:

My secret? Lots of prayer while I'm painting! God created and knows that dog and can impart that knowledge to me and give me the ability to share it on canvas. That's my secret! :-D

i mean the bright colours. i didn't know you did the bright colours on the back ground. i was thinking this came after you did Hailey for some reason.

Laura Grisham replied:

I just finished this one a few weeks ago. It's almost completely done in oil pastels. It is a gift for my Aunt Brenda and she said she loves yellow...so yellow it is! I love working with the oil pastels and think that this is where I am headed.

So, THIS is the one which was damaged? Oh, you've done a fantastic job painting a new one and I'm sure Aunt Brenda will be thrilled!!! I just love the expression of Buddy Ruff and his sweet face. I still can't believe she actually wants to go on another cruise. I want to be exactly like Aunt Brenda one day!!! This is so wonderful, full of love and sweetness, precious in color and feeling. Fav//Vote, Laura!! His eyes, his eyes.....

Laura Grisham replied:

Lil, it was so much fun painting Buddy Ruff! The photo's she sent me were all good, but I loved the one I used for this painting the best. She told me he was "woofing" at her when she took it so that's where it got it's name. Thanks for the encouragement and I can hardly wait for you and Brenda to talk! She LOVES the painting I bought from you for her...it's being framed as we speak.

I love this new painting of Buddy. He is looking up at Brenda as if to say, "Now mama, can I have my toy?" This is a very special dog, a rescue puppy at a Fair in Calif. My sister-in-law and her friend were visiting the Fair and they couldn't resist. They each took one and this one is my sisters Buddy and the friends is Spanky. They play and they go everywhere together.

Laura Grisham replied:

I didn't know that Aunt Brenda got Buddy at a fair? Wow...that means he was a rescue dog! And he's returned the favor many times for her, hasn't he!!

Artist's Description

Last year I painted a "Pooch Portrait" of my Aunt Brenda's dog, "Buddy Ruff." When it arrived it had been slashed accidentally with an X-Acto knife by the shipping company! Thank goodness I had purchased insurance. Long story short, the painting could not be repaired. I decided I would do another portrait of Buddy for Aunt Brenda for Christmas 2011.
But, Aunt Brenda decided at the last minute to take an exciting vacation around Christmas with some friends of hers from church. So, I didn't rush with her new portrait. She went to Spain and had a glorious 8 day vacation. Then, as fate would have it, she boarded a cruise ship for a fabulous cruise which included a stop in Sicily where I was born. Surely by now you've guessed it: the cruise ship she was on was the one that sank after hitting some rocks. She was in the next to the last life boat and did not even have a life jacket! I forgot to mention that she had just turned 72...and still looks and acts like a 40 year old! We are...

About Laura Grisham

Laura Grisham

As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have. When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team? Although it broke my heart, I chose music and dance. You see, those areas received much more attention, and as an insecure young teenager that was one thing I strongly desired! However, deep...
