I admit that we artists sometimes get "stuck" on something we find both beautiful and fascinating. And, like most artists just beginning on the creative path, I went through my "sunflower" phase. Although this painting is just another angle and hue of another painting, I painted many, many sunflowers...but I sold them as fast as I could paint them and did not even THINK about taking photo's. In fact, the very first painting I sold was at the Arkansas Lawn and Garden Show about 4 years ago.
I had just propped the framed piece up in a box of flower bulbs as I looked for places to put my other 3 pieces when a woman asked me if it was for sale. My jaw had to have dropped! She paid me $75 without batting an eye. Guess what I did? I cried my eyes out! I had actually sold a painting and not given one away to friends or family...someone who did not know me LIKED my painting! As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist.
