*The roses were created with gold Duck Tape and staged in a VERY real (thorns and all!) rose bush. The title came from the Greek myth of King Midas...
The Story Behind the Midas Touch Roses:
King Midas was a very kind man who ruled his kingdom fairly, but he was not one to think very deeply about what he said. One day, while walking in his garden, he saw an elderly satyr asleep in the flowers. Taking pity on the old fellow, King Midas let him go without punishment. When the god Dionysus heard about it, he rewarded King Midas by granting him one wish. The king thought for only a second and then said I wish for everything I touch to turn to gold." And so it was.
The beautiful flowers in his garden turned toward the sun for light, but when Midas approached and touched them, they stood rigid and gold. The king grew hungry and thin, for each time he tried to eat, he found that his meal had...
As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. Guess what, Therese...this is NOT a piece of digital art! I created the roses from gold Duck Tape and then placed them in my neighbors rose bush. These are ACTUAL PHOTO'S! No digital work at all, other than shadows and a tad bit on saturation...that's it!
