"Cookie" is a Jack Russell Terrior I painted for my friend, Jill Steed, to give to the hostess of her baby shower. "Cookie" belongs to Mrs. Lou Strange of Conway, AR. After giving Lou the painting I felt that the painting just didn't look right. I had been in such a hurry...Jill didn't know that I was painting a large piece for the baby's room! During refreshments I got a chance to look at "Cookie" a little closer...Oh My Goodness! Her head was "floating" and there were areas without varnish! I was so embarrassed. Lucky for me, Lou allowed Jill to get the painting BACK to me. As you can see, "Cookie" now has a neck and collar and no more "floating head!" I also corrected a few other small things that make a painting come to life...and of course I applied SEVERAL coats of varnish!
As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have. When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team?
