My "DuckTape Garden" is blooming again! However, much to my surprise, I suddenly have Blue Poppies which I thought grew only in the Himalayan Mountains and were very rare! But, then again, when you make them yourself you can have any kind of flower you want in your garden or vase! And they are easier to keep clean than silk flowers...just rinse them in water! Or, if I want to make an impression I can whip out a pen with a flower on top and enjoy all the "ooh's and ahh's!" You just can't do that with the real thing!
This project started out by walking past a display at my local HOME DEPOT store and seeing a "Duct Tape" display...a bunch of pointy roses and a lot of tape. I thought that I could do better and I think I have! As far as I know no one else has been making flowers like mine. I research the real flowers on the internet and just figure out how to create them using duct tape. And it has brought a lot of laughter into our home...wonderful, giggling, laughter! Oh, and now I am being called the "Duct Tape Florist" by those who know me...I'll take that as a compliment!
*IF YOU'D LIKE TO PURCHASE THIS FLOWER OR ANY OF MY OTHER DESIGNS, JUST SEND ME AN EMAIL AND WE'LL GO FROM THERE. I MAKE THEM ON BAMBOO SKEWERS FOR ARRANGEMENTS OR ON WRITING PENS (such as 'Inkjoy' by PaperMate...that way you don't have to throw the 'flower part' away when you run out of ink...just unskrew and replace the ink!)
*PRICES VARY ACCORDING TO FLOWER CHOSEN AND THE NUMBER ORDERED...BUT C'MON...THEY ARE DUCT-TAPE SO YOU KNOW THEY AREN'T EXPENSIVE!!
*MAY SOON BE AVAILABLE ON ETSY!

Laura Grisham replied:
Thanks, Alec...I guess even sticky duck tape can be transformed into bold pieces of art after all!

Laura Grisham replied:
Don't worry, Marcia...my mind is always spinning with ideas on what to create with this 'stuff' next!

You, my friend, are amazing! What a fantastic outlet the Lord has given you and the expressions of colors are "hue"tiful!! I'm proud of your talents and mostly proud to call you friend !!
Laura Grisham replied:
You are biased because you love me and we've been friends for over 20 years! Thanks for always "sticking" close by my side over the years and for always saying and doing stuff that "quacks" me up!

Laura- These beautiful blue duct tape flowers would make a beautiful fabric print! Reminds a bit of the "Vera" days!
Laura Grisham replied:
Go for it Vicki! You know how to make that happen and I have no clue. I'm getting ready to make some tulips using similar tape that is orange and yellow. I'm also going to offer PDF downloads on eBay with detailed instructions & photo's for a mere $10...who knows, maybe I'll actually MAKE a few dollars this time!
Bruce Combs - REACH BEYOND
Hi, again, Laura! There must be a name for it that REAL artists use -- your blurring of the colors of the pair in back that makes such immediate, realistic depth! How beautiful these are! How REAL to me (a MAN!), the shades and shadows! Absolutely and superbly REAL managing of the light. (Didn't I read that light REALLY is what graphic art is all about?) I spent a good while figuring if the back to flowers were reflections of the front one before I REALized that they obviously were not! But most of all, I can't figure out how you handle either orand the figurative vs literal meaning[s] of "duck" orand "duct" tape. You see, I can't REALLy manage much to use any kind of tape without making a mess all tangled up in my hands, etc. Christmas is a REAL challenge for me! There should be a song about it -- you know: Brucie the tape failure dreading every December until one night an elf sneaks in past his cat and wraps all the presents beautifully, even getting the names attached correctly! Then, she turns her attention to old Brucie, who is still snoring fitfully about a giant tape dispenser wrapping him in yards of tape in the shape of a Christmas tree, all except head which the Giant was musing out loud about whether to shape a tape star around it -- and Bruce surely would suffocate before morning, OR to saw off poor Bruce's head and fasten it to the side of the tree as an ornament! Ah, but just then our Bruce was wakened by the gentlest touch immaginable and the elf was soothing his perspiring forehead. And suddenly beautiful Christmas music filled the room and the elf turned into a beautiful princess who promised startled Bruce the gift of fearless, fair, and fantastical tape handling with a flair forever. Also that she would be his loving wife forevermore! Well, Bruce was so excited that he wished every day of the year could be Christmas! And to this day, they work, whistle, and sing with wrapping the presents that Santa brings little children. Now, I have a major request, friend Laura, even though you have such a nifty knack with flowers, I challenge you to construct two REAL-looking items of tape. One would, of course, be a DUCK created solely of DUCK tape; the other, a DUCT fashioned of DUCT tape. And then, as you might expect, to paint the two, in some fashion together. This all must be done by Christmas Eve, 2012, Have at it! Peace, etc., Bruce
Laura Grisham replied:
Bruce.... You just gave me the first good belly-laugh of the day!! What a comic you are! I'm so glad I don't have dreams of clothes hangers...you see, they HATE me and vice versa! They always get tangled up no matter how hard I try to seperate them. Totally impossible. I am glad that tape and I do manage to exist in the same world, however. As for your comments on Duck Tape. I have always called it Duct Tape...but I went to their website and THEY now call it Duck Tape. So, that's how all that came to be. As for creating a realistic duck out of Duck Tape I'm way ahead of you. The pun involved was just too much for me and my mind is a whirl with ways to complete such a task. As for creating a DUCT with Duck Tape...that never crossed my mind, which means you are definitley smarter than me. Alas, I will have to make a trip to Home Depot (I love that store!) and look at various DUCTS to see how to create one. And I WILL HAVE BOTH COMPLETED BEFORE CHRISTMAS 2012! The race has begun... Take care my friend, Laura
