PS., Laura, I had intended to say something serious when I finished the "Comment" above. Probably better that I forgot to and am putting this in another frame while everybody else both change their frame of mind, though probably most on-lookers didn't read far enough in the non-sense above -- Oh, my goodness! I just realized that I could be arrested by the CIA, FBI or somebody for suggesting, encouraging, even -- I can't remember the police word at the moment, but enticing or baiting or encouraging somebody to commit a crime. Luring is what it means, like seeing a sign that says "KEEP OFF THE GRASS! Violaters will be prosecuted." The when there are a bunch of people passing you shout "FREE Money!," and dump a big bad of quarters and bills in the middle of the lawn, and all the people run out there and start scrounging for the cash, and banging each other, and generally being rowdy and you have run to the corner and summoned a police officer, and also call 911! Oh, dear, I missed my serious chance again! Well, I was only going to point out the absolutely awesomely gorgeous shapes and hues of blue and mostly purple on the lady's sweater(?). Surely enough in the design(s) to keep a serious viewer studying and marveling a long time! Maybe even be enticed to steal IT! (Ah, but that's another story altogether!) Be sure to notice the lovely drawn hands on the way, and then let your mouth drop open as you catch sight of the blouse(?) peeking from under the lady's sweater(?)! And then the beautiful tourquise necklace! I remembered to use the Fine Art America magnifier here, and you simply must, too! This is one of those thick cloth materials, like velvet with gold quilted into the design over the quilted design of the lavender! It's as if the sweater (or whatever you call it) actually might be a part of it, or vice verse. And I guess that -- or ONE if not BOTH of those relationships -- actually could be the way it is. There is absolutely no room for joking about this garb. Peace, etc., Bruce

I still find it very difficult to pass this gorgeous spoof without laughing outloud. I get, or more often deliberately make up, fantasies about things often. Beats being aware of waiting for the bus, the doctor, the checker in most any store now, etc. Anyway, I see I left a bit the first time. For today, I want to STEAL the original from the Louvre and replace it with this! Whoopie, if I could somewhere stand and watch reactions. I might even wake up a "guard" or two to ask them about it! The end is that the Louvre would find is such a "draw" that they would publicize that if the theif-artist would bring back the original unharmed they would hang the two side-by-side with a piece on the little recorded guide, and for the real guides to explain! Maybe they'd even offer you, the artist, a job appearing with it as a special commentator, orand even be sitting near-by painting another copy, as people do in the major museums! But, for the sake of western art (and dogs), I think that you should not interrupt your painting career that way! Thank you, Laura, and I'll understand perfectly if my "comment" is removed by nightfall! Peace, etc., Bruce

I'd swear I had written on this one before, Laura. Did you have it in some earlier life? Well, I've forgotten LA GIOCONDA'S smile, but I don't think I will ever forget this one! Was it a Milky Way candy bar she just swallowed quickly before the child came into the house? It is so much fun reading your candid descriptions, Laura. Thank you. Peace, etc., Bruce

Artist's Description

The idea for this work just came to me....how cool would it be to re-create a masterpice in bright colors and things we use everyday. Her violet dress is actually made of newspaper...in fact, there is a section in the paper about Arkansas troops being deployed to Iraq. Her eyes were cut out of the cover of National Geographic...you remember that girl, I'm sure. The background is tissue paper mixed with glue and water. The lace of her dress is actually textured wallpaper. And...I saved the best for last....the blue "jewels" around the neckline of her gown were actually cut from a diet pepsi can! I had just drank it and figured I should use it too. Everything else, her face, neck, hair and hands are painted with acrylic.
*This painting is framed in a magnificant gold "old world museum" style frame that suits it beautifully. The frame alone was over $250, and the measurements given are the framed size.

About Laura Grisham

Laura Grisham

As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have. When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team? Although it broke my heart, I chose music and dance. You see, those areas received much more attention, and as an insecure young teenager that was one thing I strongly desired! However, deep...
