Artist's Description
The 3rd painting in my "Trail of Tears" series, "Mother and Child" reflects the sadness of a mother upon the death of her child. Many Native Americans died on their way to the Oklahoma reservation due to disease, cold, starvation and cruelty of the soldiers who led them. My hope is that their journey and loss will never be forgotten.
The piece was created using india ink glue, poured acrylic, feathers, yarns, and genuine wire-wrapped stones and stone fetishes.
*The original has been professionally framed without a matte in a dark mahogany brown frame that matches the other TRAIL OF TEARS paintings.
*THE ORIGINAL IS A PART OF THE PRIVATE ART COLLECTION OF
DR. BRADLEY AND CATHY HENRY OF LITTLE ROCK, AR.
About Laura Grisham
As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have. When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team? Although it broke my heart, I chose music and dance. You see, those areas received much more attention, and as an insecure young teenager that was one thing I strongly desired! However, deep...

Laura, Thanks for the nice comments on my 9/11 painting. You know, I live in Clarksville (on the Trail of Tears), and everytime I hear it mentioned it brings to mind a "catering company" that once opened here and called themselves "Trail of Tears Caterers". At the time I remember thinking, what a depressing name for a caterer. As you might imagine they left in a trail of tears and were shortly out of business. NOW I see, if they had only had one of your wonderful paintings in the sign/logo - they would have been a resounding success! What wonderful work you turn out - I can see you believe in color, as I do! Thanks ....larry

Marlene, I am so glad that you were able to "feel" my painting. There was a lot of pain and sorrow with each stroke but the bright colors promise new life and new beginnings. There is nothing I can teach you that you probably do not already know... let God guide you and your work and you will always find joy in your painting. Blessings, Laura Grisham
