About Laura Grisham
As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have.
When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team? Although it broke my heart, I chose music and dance. You see, those areas received much more attention, and as an insecure young teenager that was one thing I strongly desired! However, deep in my heart, I dreamed of some day returning to my art and possibly majoring in art in college.
When I began my freshman year at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR I wanted to major in Education with Art as my specialty. So, I took many art classes. But, as fate would have it, I looked at what others were doing and compared my work to those and found it so different that I decided to give up on my dream. This in spite of all the A's I received and the praise from my professors.
Many years later as an educator in the public school system, I took the Praxis III exam in Art...and passed! I earned my license to teach art in grades K-12...and that is what I did. It was a wonderful time of growth for me and I learned many new things from many great art educators.
My life was uprooted when I was forced into early retirement due to health issues. And that is when I decided to persue my passion...I was going to create art even if no one else liked it. But they DID like it, and today I stay busy painting florals, dog portraits, reworking masterpieces, and anything else I think might be fun to try.
You will find that I see things and paint them in vivid, saturated hues. And everything I do, from painting to photography, is tied to my spiritual beliefs. Just read the stories I write in my descriptions and you will begin to understand not only who I am and what I believe, but also the artwork that I create.
