Description
My husband, Kevin, is the general manager and co-owner of a large landscape nursery. Every year he brings me at least 2 or 3 Hibiscus trees to put in the beautiful glazed pots they sell at River Valley Horticultural Products. Last year, the blooms just didn't seem to have as much color as usual. Maybe it was due to the strange weather we seemed to have. I did, however, manage to capture a few great shots of the yellow blooming Hibiscus.
When I downloaded this image I decided to work with it just a little. I don't have Photoshop or any fancy-shmancy digital imaging program...just the stuff that comes downloaded on every computer. But look what happened when I cropped, highlighted, contrasted, and saturated the color! I was totally blown away!
I saw things in this amazing blossom that I didn't even see with my own eyes while looking at the REAL flower...the beautiful veining; the subtle shading and tones of yellow and orange; the texture and curling of the petals.
I've learned a valuable lesson: look more than once at the beauty that is all around you. For when you do, you will find that it is even MORE beautiful than you thought possible.

I think I have as much fun writing the "stories" in the description as I do taking the photo's and painting.

Lovely picture and message. We could all do with some slowing down and really taking in the beauty all around us! :o) voted
